Common questions
When does the timing belt need replacing?
The manufacturer sets an interval in years and miles; follow whichever comes first. If the engine is an interference design, a broken belt can bend valves, so staying ahead of it is cheaper than the damage.
Why replace the water pump with the belt?
On many engines the belt drives the pump or sits right next to it, and getting to it is most of the labor. Changing it at the same time avoids doing the same work twice.
